What's Included in a Professional Car Detail?
If you have ever booked a detail and wondered what you are actually paying for, you are not alone. A professional detail is not a car wash with a higher price tag. It is a hands-on, vehicle-by-vehicle service, and what is included can look different from one detailer to the next. Here is how it works at Primitive Notions, in Red Deer.
What a Professional Detail Actually Includes
Every detail starts before any cleaning does. When you bring your vehicle in, we inspect it together, outside and in. We go over any concerns you have, and we will tell you honestly if we can address them or not. Once you leave, we take a second look over the vehicle, in case there is something we missed.
From there, a typical interior detail with its included basic exterior wash looks like this:
Several photos of the vehicle, so we have a clear record of where it started
A basic wash on the exterior, starting with a presoak of the exterior, wheels, and door jambs, plus the front bumper or rear bumper depending on the season, bug guts on the front in summer, road salt on the back in winter
Time for that presoak to dwell, then a rinse
A second chemical application, followed by mechanical agitation on the surface, wheels first, door jambs last
Doors opened and air used to blow out and loosen dirt from under seats, cracks, between seats, and vents
A quick vacuum to get the bulk of the dirt out
Floor mats pulled out and set aside
A wipe-down of everything, from top to bottom, starting in the driver seat area and working clockwise around to the cargo area
A final vacuum and windows
Floor mats finished last, and tire dressing to complete the look
Every detailed car is not finished without tire dressing. It completes the look.
When you come to pick up your vehicle, we review what was done with you, and we go over the best ways to maintain the service you paid for. That pickup conversation is part of the service, not an afterthought.
Why Detail Does Not Mean the Same Thing Everywhere
Some people assume the whole car gets done, no matter what they book. That is not their fault. Many different detailers come up with their own version of what they think should be included, so the expectation changes, and so does the price per service.
That is why it matters to ask what is actually included before you book, and to be clear about what you want done. A list on a website only tells part of the story. The inspection at drop-off is where the real plan gets made.
How We Pick the Right Service for You
At Primitive Notions, we do not start with a package and try to fit your vehicle into it. We start with your main concerns, then we pick the service or services that address all of those concerns.
If nothing on the menu quite fits, we can create something custom.
A Custom Example: Decal Removal
One client came in looking for a polish and ceramic sealant, but he also wanted the decals removed. Decal removal was not something we had as a service, so we created one as a proposal and forwarded it to the client to review. Once he approved it, he brought his vehicle in and we completed the service.
That is how custom work should happen, with the scope and the price agreed before the vehicle ever comes in, not discovered at pickup.
What Surprises People at Pickup
Most people are surprised by how clean the vehicle is, or how glossy the paint is. When they ask what made that difference, the answer is usually DIY Detail Envie.
A professional detail should look and feel different from a regular wash, not just cleaner for a day, but finished in a way that is obvious the moment you walk up to it.
How Long Will It Last?
There is nothing special to it. Just simply wash your car.
We wash our own once a week, but even twice a month is better than nothing. How long a service will last is fully dependent on how you take care of the vehicle.
A ceramic coating can last several months, all the way to a lifetime. It all depends on how you use the vehicle, how much you drive, where you live, and whether the vehicle is parked on the street or in a garage. There are lots of variables, and anyone promising one exact number without knowing those details is guessing.
The simplest rule holds true either way. Wash it regularly, and the work you paid for will last longer.

If you are not sure what your vehicle needs, bring us your main concerns. We will inspect it with you, tell you what we can address, and build the service around that, whether it is a standard package or something custom.
It is all in the details.
